Sony Online Entertainment, the studio responsible for titles such as DC Universe Online and EverQuest, has been acquired by Columbus Nova, a New York based investment management firm. The company has been renamed to Daybreak Game Company, and will now focus on multi-platform games, while continuing development on all current projects.

Last week we reported that Hacker Group DerpTrolling leaked thousands of PSN account details on the Internet, claiming that they hacked the PlayStation Network and other services. However, Sony ash now released a statement to Joystiq that no breach was detected, and account details are safe.

DerpTrolling has released a log of customer logins across the PlayStation Network and other services, revealing 2,131 PSN details. The group also claims that they have around 7 million usernames and passwords in total, including credit card details of some of the hacked services.
Sony Gives Excuses for DRIVECLUB Launch Issues
Sony Computer Entertainment America’s President and CEO Shawn Layden has defended the DRIVECLUB launch issues by giving a poor excuse on how it’s hard to test concurrent users hitting servers. According to Layden, it’s hard to beta test “50,000, 100,000, 200,000 users hit your service”. But we already know that the Destiny beta managed to test over 850,000 concurrent users.
13.5 Million PS4s Sold Since Launch, 7.9 Million PS Plus Subscribers
As we approach the PS4’s one year anniversary in mid-November, Sony has released their latest financial results. The report shows that Sony has sold 13.5 million PS4 consoles in just under a year globally, but the company has posted an overall loss.
Sony’s Pre-TGS Press Conference Scheduled for September 1st 2014
Sony has revealed that it’s planning to host a press conference ahead of this year’s Tokyo Game Show. The press conference will take place on September 1st at 15:00 Japanese time, which is 6AM GMT. The event will be live-streamed via the PlayStation Japan website, but is likely to be mainly in Japanese. The content of the conference is currently unknown, but it could be something big.
Sony Sells 3.5 Million PlayStation Consoles Last Quarter
Sony has revealed that a massive 3.5 million PlayStation consoles (PS4, PS3 and PS2) have been sold, but didn’t go into specifics to reveal how many of each were actually sold. When comparing it to Xbox sales over the same period, which sold 1.1 million units, PlayStation outsold its rival by 3:1. At the same time, sales of PS Vita and PSP jumped to 750,000 from 600,000 this time last year.
