Sony has revealed that it will not be attending the E3 event in Los Angeles, which will be taking place in June 2019. This is the first time in the 24 year history of the event that Sony will not be attending, leaving its two biggest competitors to make the most of the event.
Sony is relaunching the original PlayStation in the form of PlayStation Classic. The mini console will come pre-loaded with 20 of the best games from the original PlayStation Console, including Final Fantasy VII, TEKKEN 3, Ridge Racer Type 4, Wild Arms and more to be announced. The PlayStation Classic will launch on 3rd December 2018 for £89.99 / €99.99.
Sony has reached a massive milestone: selling over 500 million systems worldwide since the very first PlayStation. To celebrate, a Limited Edition PS4 Pro will be launching in the coming weeks, limited to just 50k units worldwide.
Sony’s E3 press conference has been scheduled to take place on 11th June 2018, at 6PM PDT. For those in the UK and Europe, that means 12th June 2018 at 1 AM BST or 3 AM CEST. Sony has released the latest sales figures for the PS4 following the holiday season. Up to 3rd December 2017, 70.6 million PS4 were sold, but as of 31st December 2017, this figure now stands at 73.6 million units. During the holidays, which Sony categories as 20th November 2017 to 31st December 2017, 5.9 million PS4 consoles were sold.
A recent report from Sony has revealed that there are over 70 million monthly active users (MAU) on the PlayStation Network, with approximately 26.4 million PlayStation Plus subscribers. As for this year’s strategy, Sony is looking to sell a total of 78 million PS4s, and further increase PSN subscribers.
