The PlayStation Network has been down since Wednesday, for what seems like some unscheduled maintenance work. However, it now turned out that the PSN was hacked so Sony took measures to protect the network by shutting it down to investigate the intrusion. Sony has today released an official statement about the downtime.

PS3 Sales Reach 50 Million Units Worldwide

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced that the cumulative sales of the PlayStation 3 has reached a milestone of 50 million units worldwide, as of March 29, 2011. SCE also announced that PlayStation Move sales surpassed 8 million units worldwide as of April 3, demonstrating continued growth and momentum of the PS3 platform.

Free Realms hits PSN Today

Starting today, Sony’s free-to-play MMO hits the PlayStation Store. Free Realms was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and is completely free to play. DC Universe Online Coming Soon To PSN

It’s been two months since DC Universe Online was released in stores across Europe, but its only been available in stores. Sony has today announced that DC Universe Online is also coming to the EU PlayStation Store, as a digital download. The game will be available to download for €49.99/£39.99 with a 30 day subscription included at no extra cost.

The PlayStation Network is wil be going offline for scheduled maintenance from 16:05 on Wednesday 9 March 2011 until 03:00 on Thursday 10 March 2011, GMT.
