Sony will be offering gamers free identity theft protection for 1 year in both America and Europe (through different providers), to help protect users if they personal data is used as result of the PSN breach. In addition to identity theft protection, PSN users will also have the opportunity to select two PS3 games from a list of five, as well as offering PSP users the opportunity to choose two games from a list of four.
Today, the global network and security teams at Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment began the final stages of internal testing of the new system, an important step towards restoring PlayStation Network and Qriocity services.

It’s been 7 days now since the PSN went offline, causing frustration for a lot of gamers. Sony released another update on the situation earlier, but its still bad news for gamers. However, it now turned out that the PSN was hacked so Sony took measures to protect the network by shutting it down to investigate the intrusion.
