Sony’s new portable console will not only expensive for early adopters, but the games will also leave you strapped for cash. The first pricing details for PSVita games have been revealed in Japan, suggesting RRP prices will be as high as ¥6,090, which is $80 or £50.

PSVita Confirmed For 2012 Release in North America and Europe
Sony has confirmed that the PSP successor will be released in Japan in 2011, but all other regions will get the PlayStation Vita in “early 2012”. “Sony Corp. Executive Vice President Kazuo Hirai said Thursday the PlayStation Vita will go on sale by the end of the year in Japan, and early next year in the U.S. and Europe,” states MSN Money.
PS Vita Can Be Used As A PS3 Controller
Sony have confirmed that you can use the PlayStation Vita as a PlayStation 3 controller, effectively offering up similar gameplay possibilities as Nintendo’s Wii U. There are severa possibilities on how the PSVita can be used alongside the PS3. Examples include using the PSVita as a secondary display or as an additional game controller, making use of the touch functionality.
Rumor Alert: No Vita in Europe Until 2012
If CVG and VG247 are to be believed, the PlayStation Vita won’t arrive on European store shelves until early 2012. Although the release date has yet to be confirmed by Sony, they are still aiming for a pre-Christmas launch in North America. It would be disappointing if the European release date is in 2011.
PS Vita To Support Skype
A presentation given by Sony in Sao Paulo, Brazil seems to indicate that the PlayStation Vita will support Skype. And its a good think since even the original PSP supports Skype – it would be a shame for the PS Vita to drop this functionality. The image below shows the Skype logo on the top right of the screen.

ModNation Racers on the PlayStation Vita
ModNation Racers was shown off at E3 2011 last week, showing how the PS Vita’s unique hardware features make creating a track easy. As mentioned in the Press Conference, this title is not a port of the PSP or PS3, but the title will include all the 2 million plus Mods, Karts and Tracks from the previous titles.
What is the difference between the PSP system and the PS Vita in terms of hardware specs?
Advanced portable entertainment system
- A high performance CPU / GPU combined with OLED enables rich, visually striking graphics never seen before on a portable entertainment system. PS Vita also adopts the Super Oval Design form factor, which fits comfortably in users’ hands.
Revolutionary User Interface
- A unique multi-touch pad on the rear, with the front touch display. Two cameras on it’s front and rear, as well as three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer, and electronic compass.
LiveArea
- Every game title for PS Vita will be provided with a space called “LiveArea” where users can share the fun and excitement with other players.
Location-based services
- SCE will provide location-based services on PS Vita as part of the basic features utilizing PlayStation Network. The new application called “Near,” developed specifically for this service and the network, will be pre-installed in the system.
Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity
- PS Vita is equipped with 3G in addition to Wi-Fi.
Closely coordinated with PlayStation Suite
- The newly developed and released game content for Android based portable devices can also be enjoyed on PS Vita.
