PlayStation Celebrates 25th Birthday with Best Selling Home Console Certificate
The first PlayStation console was sold in Japan 25 years ago this week, on 3rd December 1994 to be exact. Since then, the PlayStation has sold over 450 million consoles across the four generations, making it the best selling home video game console brand.

Sony has announced an official in-ear stereo headset for the PS4, releasing this December. Priced as £77.99/€89.99, the headset will feature AudioShield technology to block out external sounds, and will have up to 15 hours of battery life. The headset will connect straight into the DualShock 4, but can also be used on the PS Vita and other devices with a 3.5mm headphone port.
PlayStation’s 20th Anniversary
Yesterday marked 20 years since the original PlayStation was released in North America. The PlayStation came to North America nine months after it was released in Japan (released on December 3, 1994), and at the time it was a stylish, powerful, developer-friendly game console that popularized polygonal 3D graphics and CD playback of games and music.
PlayStation Sponsor UK-Based Indie Expo Called “EToo” Coinciding with E3 2013
Not making it to E3 this year? Fear not: London will be getting its own indie gaming alternative, which will coincide with the major LA-based gaming convention. Taking place at the Loading Bar in Soho from June 10th – 13th, EToo will feature over 30 game developers showing off their latest games. PlayStation will be in attendance, with Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us playable, as well as innovative platform adventure Rain and some “surprise extras”.

Next-Gen PlayStation Will Be Released After Competition
If you are waiting for the next generation PlayStation console, you have a few years of waiting to do if Sony Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida, is to be believed. In an interview with Develop, Yoshida said that Microsoft and Nintendo will release their next consoles before Sony.
Sony Patents ‘Degradable’ Demo
Sony has patented a game demo technology that would initially provide players with a full version of a game, but as time progresses, the game would start to degrade or deteriorate leaving players with the bare bones of the game. The full version could then be restored via an unlock code.
Sony Frees Additional 70MB Memory For PS3 Developers
The PlayStation University has discovered that the memory used by the PS3’s operating system has reduced from 120MB to 50MB. This upgrade that Sony implemented via the firmware updates means that an additional 70MB worth of memory has been freed up for developers to utilise.
