DFC has confirmed that Sony’s PS4 was the biggest console launch of all time in terms of hardware unit sales, beating the two previous record holders: the Nintendo Wii and PS2. The PS4 sold more consoles in the first two weeks on sale that any other console, including Microsoft’s Xbox One.

NPD Figures for November 2013 Reveal PS4 as Top Selling Platform, Xbox One Fastest Selling
According to the latest NPD figures, the PS4 was the biggest selling console in the US last month, but the Xbox One was the faster selling one. We already know that the PS4 managed to sell over one million units in the first 24 hours, while the Xbox One managed to sell approximately 101k every day. It wasn’t revealed how many units the PS4 sold exactly in November, however.
2.1 Million PS4s Sold Over 32 Countries
Sony has experienced record-breaking sales for the PS4 after launching the console in 32 countries. The PS4 sold over 1 million units in the first 24 hours of sale in North America on November 15th, and has sold over 2.1 million units worldwide after the console released in Europe and Latin America on November 29th.
Xbox One Sells a Million Units in 24 Hours
The Xbox One launched in 13 territories on Friday, November 22nd 2013, selling one million units in the first 24 hours, matching the first-day figures for the PS4. However, in comparison, the PS4 sold one million units in just two countries: USA and Canada, compares to Xbox One’s 13. The European launch on November 29th 2013 will further boost the PS4’s numbers.
Sony Aiming to Sell 5 Million PS4s By March 2014
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House revealed the sales projections for the Playstation 4 at the company’s keynote at the Tokyo Game Show. House revealed that Sony are aiming to sell 5 million PS4 consoles worldwide by March 2014, by which date the console will be available in every major territory.
Sony Releases “Black Friday” PS3 And Vita Sales Figures
Sony has released the PS3 and PS Vita sales figures for last week, which includes Black Friday results. The two consoles combined sold 685,000 units from November 18th 2012 through to November 24th 2012, which is said to be a 9% increase over last year, including software and peripherals sales too.
PS3 Sales Reach 70 Million Units Worldwide
In a press release this morning, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that sales for the PS3 have reached over 70 million units worldwide as of November 4th 2012. The milestone has been achieved in less than six years after the console was first launched in 2006. Sony’s PlayStation Move controller has also surpassed 15 million units as of November 11th 2012.
PS3 Sales Surpasses 5 Million Units in the UK
Sony has revealed that sales of the PS3 in the UK has passed the 5 million unit mark, since the console was first launched in March 2007. The console has sold over 5 million across all three designs, starting with the very first 60GB model, down to the 500GB “Super Slim” models recently launched.
PS3 “Super Slim” Has Caused Sales to Increase By 138%
MCV reports that initial PS3 sales have increased by 138% last week after the redesigned PS3 was released. The “Super Slim” PS3, as we like to call it, was released in North America and Europe last week after being officially announced at TGS in September.
PlayStation Move Ships 1 Million Units in North America
Although its not a definitive sales number, the PlayStation Move has already shipped one million units and given the list of exciting games coming out soon, it’s hard to imagine sales slowing down. Sony has a stack of games lined up for the holiday season with 24 titles already supporting the motion controller.
