Firmware updated version 3.50 is now available to download. The main feature included in the new update is support for 3D Blu-ray movie playback, but we have information on other new features too. PlayStation 3 Firmware v3.42 Now Available
A new firmware update is now available for the PlayStation 3. Firmware version v3.42 doesn’t add anything new to the software, but simply includes security fixes for the console. The new update disables the use of the recent USB dongle hack, whether it’s the Groove, the Jailbreak, or the PS Freedom.

PSP System Software Ver. 6.31
Games
- System software stability during use of some PSP format software titles has been improved.
PSP Firmware v6.31 Now Available
A new firmware update is now available for the PSP. Version v6.31 is a minor update to the system software, but is required to access the PlayStation Store. The firmware update improves system stability for current and upcoming games.
PS3 Firmware 3.41 Now Available
Turned on your PlayStation 3 recently? Sony has released a new firmware update for the console, bringing the system software to version v3.41. This mandatory update adds a Recommendation section to the PlayStation Store for both videos and games.
PS3 Future 3D Firmware Updates Detailed
We know that the PS3 will be getting another firmware update in September to add 3D Blu-ray compatibility to the console. In addition to this, Pocket-Lint are reporting that there will be a third 3D related firmware update for the PlayStation 3, which will bring 3D photos to the platform.

- [By Format] has been added to the options menu for [Group Content].
System Software Ver. 3.40
Settings
- [Deep Color Output (HDMI)] has been added as an option under [Display Settings].
- [Automatic Download] has been added as a feature under [System Settings]. This feature is exclusively for use by PlayStation Plus members.
- The default setting for [System Auto-Off] under [Power Save Settings] has been changed to [After 2 Hours].
Photo
- You can now print a photo in [Photo Gallery].
- You can now delete a photo in [Photo Gallery].
- [PlayStation®Network Area] has been added under [Photo Gallery]. You can now use Photo Gallery to browse photos from Facebook® or Picasa™ Web Albums. You can also share photos from Photo Gallery with your Friends on PlayStation Network.
Video
- [Video Editor & Uploader] has been added under [Video]. Using the video editing and uploading feature, you can now edit video content that is saved on your PS3 system’s hard disk and upload it to Facebook or YouTube™.
Network
- PlayStation Plus membership is now supported on PlayStation Network.
Friends
- You can now see the trophy level of a Friend by selecting the Friend’s avatar.
Other
- You can now use a five-star rating system to evaluate products that you purchase from PlayStation Store.
- The internal clock functionality that accounts for leap years has been improved.
PS3 Firmware for 3D Blu-Rays Available Before End of the Year
Sony has officially confirmed that PS3 will receive a separate firmware update to support new 3D Blu-ray discs. Sony says (via Andriasang) that the new firmware update will be released ‘by the end of the year’. Firmware 3.30, which was released in April, added 3D game support to the console.
