A new trailer promoting the PS4’s Party Chat feature has revealed a upcoming feature on the next Firmware update. At the 10 second mark, the video shows a popup notification of a friend coming online – a feature that’s been missing on the PS4 since launch, but on that has been requested often.
If you are still encountering issues with PS4 Firmware v2.00 or v2.01, Sony has released yet another minor update to improve system stability. PS4 Firmware v2.02 is now available to download and improves system stability during the use of features, games and apps.
Sony has released PS4 Firmware v2.01 to fix issues people have been having with Firmware 2.00, and in particular, the updated Rest Mode. The new patch is now available to download and improves “system stability during use of some features”.
Sony has announced that an upcoming Firmware update will finally allow users to watch their 3D Blu-Ray films on the PS4. The feature should really have been part of the PS4 at launch, but will now be included with PS4 Firmware Update 1.75. The announcement from Sony follows a similar one from Microsoft, which revealed 3D Blu-ray support for the Xbox One next month.
Along side today’s PS4 firmware update, Sony has released a new firmware update for the PS3. The new PS3 firmware updates the system software to version v4.60 and simply improves system stability during the use of some features. The update is 197 MB in size and is required to access the PlayStation Network.
Yet another feature is making it’s way to the PS4 in the next firmware update. This time, it’s the ability to download a game that’s been pre-ordered ahead of the official release date, allowing you to have the game ready to play at launch. However, the feature may be limited to North America for the time being.
In an interview with Geoff Keighley, Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for SCE revealed that the next PS4 firmware update will allow gamers to dim the lightbar on the DualShock 4. The next firmware is already in development and will be releasing in coming weeks.
