Sony have confirmed to Wired that they are working on bringing PS2 games to the PlayStation 4 via emulation. In an email to Wired, a Sony representative revealed that they are “working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation.”

PS1 and PS2 Games May Come to PS4 Via Emulation
While PlayStation Now will allow PS3 games to be played on the PS4, PS Vita and other devices, an inside source reveals that PS1 and PS2 games will be playable on the PS4 via emulation. Eurogamer’s source also reveals that the PS4 will be able to upscale these games to HD resolution.
Sony Announces “PSP Engine” For PS3
Firmware Update 3.65 made a small update to the PS3 System Software, by renaming the Save Data Utility for Minis to also include PSP save data. The reason for this change is now clear. At the GTMF (Game Tools and Middleware Forum) in Tokyo, Sony announced the PSP Engine – a middleware between the PS3 and a PSP game.
SEGA Leaks Sony’s Plans for PS2 and Dreamcast Emulation on PS3
Sony and SEGA met in early August of this year to discuss SEGA’s PS3 and PSP releases, as well as Sony’s plans for the console in the near future. The confidential notes from the meeting were leaked by SEGA (included below), and suggest Sony is looking to emulate all PlayStation 2 titles and release them on the PlayStation Network. There was also mention of Dreamcast titles.
