Sony today officially announced the BBC Sport app (something we reported yesterday), which will sit alongside BBC News and BBC iPlayer on the Sony Entertainment Network. The new app will launch on Sony BRAVIA and PlayStation 3 in time for Wimbledon 2012.

PlayStation 3 to get Olympic Sports Video App
The PlayStation 3, along with Sony Bravia TVs and Blu-ray players, will be getting a Olympics Video Application to cover the London 2012 games. The BBC will be launching the BBC Sports app sometime in June – the Sony HX8 TV will be the first device to get the application, just in time for Wimbledon.
BBC iPlayer for PS3 Gets Makeover
BBC iPlayer on PS3 is to get a make over and will move from using the creaky PS3 web browser to a standalone app. The new app has been built from scratch with new features including viewer recommendations and a “vastly improved” search function. The UI is much slickers and easier to use and navigate.
Confirmed: ITV Player and 4OD Available on PS3 This Week
The BBC iPlayer has enjoyed much success in the UK, sitting on the PS3 XMB for some time. If newspaper The Guardian, is to be believed, the XMB video streaming options are set to expand further this week, adding two new channels: ITV Player and 4OD.
iPlayer 3 Coming to PS3
The BBC has confirmed that the newest iteration of its TV on-demand service, the iPlayer, will be released on Sony’s PlayStation 3 soon. Simon Cross of the BBC told TechRadar that it will be looking to introduce the iPlayer 3 on Sony’s console once it overcomes technical issues with the sign-in process.

PlayStation 3 iPlayer Quality Improved
With the release of Firmware 3.00, the BBC iPlayer was also updated by the BBC. The new version offers improved video quality and an enhanced user interface. The first version of BBC iPlayer for the PS3 was released last December and didn’t support full screen mode or H.264 playback. Anthony Rose, head of digital media technology for the BBC, has heaped praise on Sony’s efforts in improving Flash playback on the PS3.
