I find it strange that Sony has gone through the trouble of letting the PS4 detect PS3 discs inserted into the system, instead of just showing a generic “Unsupported disc” error message. I did a small experiment to see how the PS4 would handle PS3, PS2 and PSOne discs and what I found was a little surprising, as the video below shows.
PS3 Wireless Headsets will be Compatible with PS4
A Sony official at San Diego Comic-Con has told Polygon that the PS4 will support older PS3 headsets, even though the console will come bundled with it’s own mono headset. PS3 headsets like the official PS3 Wireless Headset and the Pulse Headset will work with the new console as an alternative. It’s expected that other third-party headsets will also work with the PS4.

According to website TheSixthAxis, reports are staring to come in suggesting SCEE have started updating older PSP titles on the PlayStation Store so they work on the PlayStation Vita. NGP Will Be Backwards Compatible

No More Backwards Compatibility For PS3
Despite what rumors are suggesting, backwards compatibility will not be returning to the PS3 suggests John Koller, Director of Hardware at SCEA. “It’s not coming back, so let me put that on the table,” said Koller when asked about backwards compatibility. He also added that despite what people may think, backwards compatibility isn’t really that big of a draw for the PS3. “It’s not as big as a purchase intent driver as you may be hearing,” he claimed. Currently, only the early PS3 models are able to play PS2 games. The 60GB launch models have hardware emulation to play PS2 games – this hardware was removed in newer models.
What PS1/PS2 games are compatible with my PlayStation 3?
Depending on your PlayStation 3 model, you will either have some compatibility or no compatibility. The earlier US and Japanese PS3 models have specific hardware for backwards compatibility which is no longer present in European and earlier PS3 models. The PS3 Slim only supports PSOne titles.
You can see which games are compatible with your console by checking the US Compatibility list and European compatibility list.
