Site Layout Change
It’s been 6 months since launch and we decided that the site should get a nice new layout for the new year. Let us know what you think by using the contact page.
We hope the new layout is much easier to use than our previous layout, but our new layour is no longer PSP browser friendly. We hope to have a new PSP portal up and running soon!
PSP Firmware 2.6
Wow, a new version already? Sony has now released firmware version 2.6 in Japan for download. So, what new? Here is a summary of the features:
NETWORK
- RSS Channel
- Volume Adjustment for location free player
MUSIC
- WMA playback added
- Volume Adjustment for location free player
The update is available via the Network Update feature on your PSP or from the Japanese PlayStation website.
UPDATE:
Firmware 2.6 is now available in the US and UK. You can update via the “Network Update” utility or use the USB cable to update using a PC.
PSP System Software Ver. 2.60
Network
- [RSS Channel] has been added as a feature under [Network].
- [Volume Adjustment] has been added as an option in the [LocationFree Player] control panel.
- [Simplified Chinese (GB18030)]* and [Traditional Chinese (Big5)] have been added as options to [Encoding] under [View] in the [Internet Browser] menu bar.
- Copyright-protected video data provided by a content provider or other services can now be downloaded directly to a Memory Stick Duo™ using the [Internet Browser].
Music
- Music data in WMA (Windows Media® Audio) format can now be played under [Music]. (This applies to music saved on Memory Stick Duo™ media.)
- WMA9 Professional, WMA9 Lossless and copyright-protected WMA files are not supported.
- Note that you must activate the [Enable WMA Playback] setting to play music data in WMA format.
Settings
- [Enable WMA Playback] has been added as a setting under [System Settings].
- A connection to the Internet is required for the one-time activation of this setting. Note that no personal information is collected during the activation process. For details, refer to the user agreement that must be accepted as part of the activation process.
PSP Media Manager RSS
If you own the PSP Media Manager, you can automatically download our exclusive magazine and transfer it to your PSP using the FEEDS feature. Simply add the below RSS link to your feeds list:

PSP GIGA Pack
Sony (Japan) recently announced the introduction of two new PSP packages. The PSP GIGA pack will come in Standard Black and Ceramic White with the following included in the package:
- AC Adapter & Battery
- 1GB Memory Stick PRO DUO (instead of 32MB)
- Remote Control and Headphones
- Pouch
- Cleaning Cloth
- USB Cable and Stand
Both the Standard Black (PSP-1000G1) and the Ceramic White (PSP-1000G1cw) packages will be available in Japan from the 17th of November at the price of ¥31,290 (approx £155/$280). The PSP will come pre-installed with Firmware 2.50.
UPDATE: Sony is planning to release similar packages in Europe, North America and the rest of Asia soon in mid November. The packs are scheculed to be released in the UK on the 21st of November, and will follow throughout Europe and Asia on the 28th November. The packs are ideal for christmas gifts are will be available for a limited period only.

The current high demand for PSPs in the UK and Europe will mean these packs will be sold out fast, not to mention that they will be sold for a fraction of the price for buying a PSP and a 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo seperately. The PSP branded Memory Stick PRO Duo will be available for sale early November for existing PSP owners who want to upgrade their memory capacity.
Firmware 2.5 Released
Firmware 2.5 has been released for the PSP, the new features include:
Network
- [LocationFree? Player] has been added as a feature under [Network].
- [Auto-Select] and [Unicode (UTF-8)] have been added as options to [Encoding] under [View] in the [Internet Browser] menu bar.
- Settings for [Text Size] and [Display Mode] in [Internet Browser] can now be saved.
- The input history of online forms accessed through [Internet Browser] can now be saved.
Video

Copyright-protected video can now be played under [Video].
(This applies to video saved on Memory Stick Duo? media).- For details, contact the video content provider.
- Note that fees may be charged to obtain or use copyright-protected video.
- Downloadable copyright-protected video may not be available in all countries and regions.
Settings
- [Set via Internet] has been added as an option to [Date and Time] in [Date & Time Settings] under [Settings].
- [WPA-PSK (AES)] has been added as a security method under [Network Settings].
The update can be downloaded using the Network Update feature on your PSP. Note that this update will disable you from running homebrew applications on your PSP, so upgrade at your own risk.
