The 2.0 Firmware Release for North American PSP owners has been delayed for another week, according to Sony.
“The PSP Firmware 2.0 Upgrade for the North American market will be available during the week of August 15th, instead of on August 12, as previously reported.”
No information was given about why the delay has occured, but it could be due to extended testing or correcting bugs from the Japanese release. As far as we know, no additional features have been added.
According to PSPWorld.com:
“Izumi Kawanishi, head of SCE software platform development, recently gave an interview to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu in which he discussed some of the functionality that is hopefully coming in future firmware updates. Kawanishi mentioned the ability to use the Wi-Fi connection for both Ad-Hoc and Infrastructure modes simultaneously. Streaming video content is another possible addition, along with some sort of voice or video email client. No time frame was given for any of these new features appearing in an update.”
We will report on this as it develops.

Rumors suggest that the PSP may be able to use its Wi-Fi capabilities to control the PS3:
?However, you will be able to use your PSP’s Wi-Fi capability to play movies and flick through all of the files and folders on your PS3 from the comfort of your sofa. And since the two machines will also share Memory Stick Duo cards, you will be able to transfer photos and films between the devices.?
This could also mean that the PSP could be used to transfer UMD movies to the PS3 to view on larger screens, which would definately boost UMD sales. No actual details are available.
