An image has surfaced on the internet indicating that a Gran Turismo 5 beta is coming soon, and could already be in the private beta stage. The image clearly shows a PS3 download screen for the highly anticipated Gran Turismo 5. A beta for the game, due to release this winter, hasn’t been officially mentioned or announced yet. However, it’d be no surprise that a game on this scale would need some sort of beta testing phase to make sure that the online mode was up-to-scratch.
More PS3 Firmware 3.0 Details Emerge
In addition to what we reported earlier about the upcoming Firmware 3.0 update on September 1st, more details about what the update will include have emerged. As you may be aware, Linux support is being dropped on the PS3 Slim and was likely to be dropped on older models with the new update. Rest assured, Sony will not be removing the feature from older PS3 models. The new boot screen for both old and new models has been confirmed; in addition, the booting of a game will no longer display the “PlayStation 3” logo.
PlayStation Store Update For Aug 27th 2009
It’s the last PlayStation Store update for August! This week, two new downloadable games hit the European Store, including Smash Cars, as well as two new playable demos. There is also new game add-on content for Batman: Arkham Asylum, Crash Commando, Disgaea 3, LittleBigPlanet and other games. For the US, Invincible Tiger is now available to download as well as four new playable demos. There is also a new episode of PULSE and plenty of new game add-on content.
PS3 Slim – “It Only Does Everything”
Earlier this week we featured an article with some Japanese adverts for the PS3 Slim. Today, SCEA unveiled some more adverts targeted at the US market. The new ad campaign uses the tagline “It Only Does Everything” and we have two of the adverts to show you below. The new adverts launch on 1st September, when the PS3 Slim hits stores in Europe and North America.
VidZone Update for Aug 27th 2009
This week on VidZone, Basshunter, the Swedish eurodance titan is artist of the week for the UK and Ireland, while for the rest of Europe its Kelly Clarkson. Basshunter’s new video “Every Morning” and Kelly’s new video “Already Gone” will be up to watch along with all their other videos. There are also playlists for the boys and girls this week with the addition of One for the Boys and Divas.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Coming To PSP on October 20th
Rockstar Games has announced the release date of the PSP version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on their Twitter account. The game will be out on the PSP on October 20th 2009 and will be available on UMD and as a digital download for the PSPGo! which is released on October 1st. No screen shots of the game are available yet but Rockstar says they’re “coming soon.”
Final Fantasy XIV Online To Include Cross-Platform Interactivity
Square Enix’s Global Online Producer Sage Sundi recently confirmed to OneLastContinue that Final Fantasy XIV Online will support cross-platform interactivity for players. This means that both PlayStation 3 and PC users will be able to interact with each other across the different platforms. The PS3 version of the game will have full keyboard and mouse support. This will make Final Fantasy XIV the second full-scale Playstation 3 game to implement such a feature.
PS3 Slim Gets Disassembled
Thinking about getting the new PS3 Slim next week? The guys over at iFixIt tore apart the PS3 Slim screw by screw to see what the new console had under the hood. Of course, disassembling your PS3 instantly voids the manufacturers warranty (if you still have a valid one) so you wouldn’t want to try this at home. Instead, watch the video below.
