Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai outlined Sony’s strategy for 2009 at today’s keynote speech during the Tokyo Game Show. Sony’s strategy seems pretty clear – an emphasis on network play, and creating an attractive price point for the PlayStation 3. He said there are eight elements of network gaming: watch, create, communication, learn, play, share, and discover.
TGS 09: Gran Turismo 5 Hitting Japan in March 2010
Sony announced during its press conference at the Tokyo Game Show this week that PlayStation 3 exclusive racer Gran Turismo 5 will be released in Japan in March 2010. The hotly anticipated sequel from Polyphony Digital was expected to arrive on the scene around December, though unless the western version miraculously shows up three months before its Japanese counterpart , it will be a long shot for the EU and US version to be released.
Sony Confirms 250GB PS3 Bundles for UK
Following heaps of speculation over the past few weeks, Sony UK has officially unveiled plans to release a series of 250GB PlayStation 3 bundles in the region. Kicking off on October 1, punters will be able to fork out £284.99 GBP for a bundle containing a choice of two Platinum Hits or a copy of the PS3 exclusive superhero outing, inFamous. Things get a little more exciting from October 16, though, when the bundle initiative is expanded to include Naughty Dog’s hotly anticipated sequel, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
TGS 2009: Motion Controller Details
Earlier today, Kaz Hirai, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., kicked off Tokyo Game Show with a keynote speech that unveiled some interesting tidbits about the future of PlayStation. Hirai also showed off the PS3 motion controller, reiterating that it would be released in the Spring of 2010. They feature a pair of motion sensors, a three-axes gyroscope and a three-axes accelerometer, along with Bluetooth and a rechargable Li-on battery.
Final Fantasy XIII PS3 Slim Heading to Japan
Over the last few weeks the PS3 Slim has provent to be a hit, but hopefully Final Fantasy fans haven’t already purchased one. Sony has a special white and pink edition, called Lightning Edition, coming that will honor the franchise. Plus, it will come rocking a 250GB HDD. So far the special edition is only announced for Japan though. It’s slated to be released on December 17 for ¥41,600 (approx £280 / $460).

The latest issue of Japan’s Famitsu magazine has published a boatload of juicy character tidbits on Square’s hotly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII for your consumption. The publication details primarily on new girl Serah Farron, who regular visitors to PSU should recognise from last week’s V-Jump scans as Lightning’s younger sibling and fiancée to another major character, Snow.
Uncharted Story Will Continue After Among Thieves
Naughty Dog has insisted that PlayStation 3 exclusive sequel Uncharted 2: Among Thieves doesn’t wrap up Nathan Drake’s treasure hunting escapades, hinting that the brash adventurer will return for more high-octane, globe-trotting thrills later down the line. The developer is keen to continue Drake’s story as long as fans want more of it.
The Witcher 2 Getting Console Release
CD Projekt’s Tomasz Gop has revealed that a console-based version of PC RPG sequel The Witcher 2 is in the pipeline. Speaking to GRY-Online, Gop said that the developer is keen to get the game out on consoles too, though noted it’ll be a while before we see the title on store shelves, as there is still plenty of development time left on the project.
