The PlayStation 3 is getting a new firmware update to make things easier for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Sony has added the option to automate two existing features on the PS3. The update also includes some minor changes to the PlayStation Store and enhancements to 3D Blu-ray playback on the console.
The PlayStation Vita is not only a next-gen gaming console, it also features a number of Social and Online features. Now, the actual Social and Online modes have officially been detailed (most functions remain intact, while some has been tweaked). BBC iPlayer on PS3 is to get a make over and will move from using the creaky PS3 web browser to a standalone app. The new app has been built from scratch with new features including viewer recommendations and a “vastly improved” search function. The UI is much slickers and easier to use and navigate.
We’ve got some bad news for fans of Twisted Metal. David Jaffe, Co-Founder of Eat Sleep Play, has revealed that Twisted Metal will miss the October release date that was first announced. The game will now be released in early 2012, but a exact release date has yet to be announced.Read More
Sony have started a new promotion on the PlayStation Network: PLAY. PLAY is a brand-new annual program, where you can get the season’s hottest PlayStation Network action titles. With every purchase of a PLAY title in PlayStation Store throughout the duration of the program (which ends on 20 September 2011), you’ll receive a separate piece of DLC for each game, plus a new theme with every pre-order.
Sony has confirmed that the PSP successor will be released in Japan in 2011, but all other regions will get the PlayStation Vita in “early 2012”. “Sony Corp. Executive Vice President Kazuo Hirai said Thursday the PlayStation Vita will go on sale by the end of the year in Japan, and early next year in the U.S. and Europe,” states MSN Money.

This month’s selection of PlayStation Plus content is now online on the European PlayStation Store. This month you can get various discounts on the Assassin’s Creed titles, and PSN titles Comix Zone and Crash Commando for free. You can also get PSOne title Rayman and two new Minis titles.
Resistance 3 has gone gold, and has been delivered to manufacturing for its 7th, 8th and 9th September release dates across PAL. Insomniac is still working hard however in bringing a Day 1 patch to the game to update the Online component of the game. The multiplayer public beta begins August 10th for EU PS Plus subscribers, with changes made available in the Day 1 patch.
