Sony is continuing it’s road to financial recovery, having recently reported an increase in profit for Q1 2015. Sony has report $780 million operating profit, up 39% compared to last year, and mostly thanks to the success of the PS4. Sony’s games devision was obviously the most profitable part of the company, reporting 350% increase in profits to $147 million.
PS4 System Software Ver. 2.57
PS4 Firmware v2.57 is now available to download, and is required to access the PlayStation Network. The update itself is a minor one, improving system stability and fixing bugs with the System Software. The official changelog can be found below.
EU PlayStation Store Update for July 21st 2015
New content is available on the European PlayStation Store this week, with seven new PS4 games, one new PS3 game and two new PS Vita games. New games include Journey (PS4), Skullgirls 2nd Encore (PS4), Deadpool (PS3) and Hatoful Boyfriend (PS Vita). You can also find new DLC for all three PlayStation platforms.
PS4 Cloud Storage Needs to be Increased
With a PlayStation Plus subscription, games get 1 GB of cloud storage included in the subscription plan, letting you back up your savedata. The space is sufficient for the PS3 and PS Vita, where savedata is much smaller (usually a few megabytes per game), but the same can’t be said about the PS4. As I recently found out, many PS4 games have far larger data saved, filling up your cloud storage quickly.
Game of Thrones: Episode Five Releasing July 21st 2015
Telltale Games has announced that Episode 5 of it’s Game of Thrones series will be releasing next week, starting with the PC release, and Xbox and PS4 versions to follow shortly afterwards. Episode 5 is titled A Nest of Vipers and is the penultimate episode in the series. A trailer for the upcoming episode has been released, which you can find below.
PlayStation Now Open Beta Starts in UK Today
Over the past few months, Sony has been testing the PlayStation Now game streaming service in the UK, but with selected gamers only. However, as of today, the beta is now available to all gamers. The service lets you stream selected PS3 games to your PS4 and other PlayStation Now compatible devices, with compatibility eventually coming for the PS3 and PS Vita.
Top PSN Sellers for June 2015 in North America
SCEA released the PlayStation Store chart for June 2015, revealing the top selling games and DLC across all three consoles. On the PS4, The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited debuted at number 1 on PS4, followed by Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3, while Minecraft continues its reign atop the PS3 chart. Final Fantasy VII saw a sudden surge in downloads too, thanks to this announcement.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III PS4 Beta set for August 19th 2015
Treyarch has announced that the PS4 beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops III will begin on August 19th 2015. PS4 owners will get exclusive timed access to the beta, although it’s not clear how long the beta will last and what playable modes will be available. To get access to the PS4 beta, you’ll need to pre-order the game to receive your code.
US PlayStation Store Update for July 14th 2015
New content is available on the US PlayStation Store, with eight new PS4 games, three new PS3 games and two new PS Vita games available for purchase. New games include God Of War III Remastered (PS4), Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess (PS4, PS3, PS Vita) and Godzilla (PS4, PS3). You can also find new downloadable content, themes and avatars to download.
