Following yesterday’s announcement of the PS4 Pro, the official specification and photos of the upcoming console has been revealed. It’s now clear that the new PS4 won’t include a UHD Blu-ray drive, despite the console’s main selling point being its 4K compatibility. Even with that omission, the PS4 Pro still sports some serious hardware upgrades.
PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro Officially Announced
At the PlayStation Meeting today in New York City, Andrew House officially announced the PS4 Slim and new PS4 Pro models. The new Slim model will be available in most countries from September 15th, and will cost just $299 /£259. The PS4 Pro, the name for the 4K compatible console, is the official name of the PS4 “Neo”.
EVE: Valkyrie will be PlayStation VR Launch Title, Available as Physical Disc
Sony and CPP have announced that EVE: Valkyrie will be releasing on 13th October 2016 for the PlayStation VR, making it an official launch title for the new headset. The game will be available as a physical retail disc from stores thanks to a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment, and digital download from the PlayStation Store. Gamers who purchase the game will also get the Founder’s Pack, which will include extras for the game.
EU PlayStation Store Update for 23rd August 2016
The first PlayStation Store update for September 2016 is now live in Europe, adding 18 new PS4 games and DLC content. This week’s update also adds six new games to the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection, including Lords Of The Fallen and Journey, all of which are free to download for subscribers. Free Demo Disc will be Included with PlayStation VR, Demo Games Confirmed
Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation VR will come with a free demo disc to give gamers the opportunity to try out eight games. The demo disc will be included with every PlayStation VR, which launches on October 13th 2016. Sony has also confirmed which eight demos will be included on the disc, which includes Driveclub VR and EVE: Valkyrie.
How to Watch Today’s PlayStation Meeting Press Conference
Later today, Sony will be holding the PlayStation Meeting at the PlayStation Theatre in New York City. The event itself is restricted to the press, but PlayStation fans are able to live-stream the event and catch all the new announcements as they happen. The event will kick-off at 8pm BST / 9pm CET / 3pm PT this evening, and Sony is expected to announce at least two new PS4 hardware revisions.
Overwatch Free Weekend Starts this Friday
If you haven’t experienced Blizzard’s latest shooter, Overwatch, you’ll be happy to know that the game will be playable for free this coming weekend. The Overwatch Free Weekend will be begin this Friday, 9th September 2016 from 7pm BST, and running until 12.00pm BST on Monday, 12th September. The free weekend will let you play almost the entire game, sample all 22 characters, play on every map and do so in Quick Play, Custom Games and the Weekly Brawl
Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 3 Releasing this November
Telltale Games has confirmed that season 3 of it’s The Walking Dead series will be coming to consoles and other platforms in November 2016. Season 3, subtitled A New Frontier, will be split over 5 episodes, with the first available in November. The events in Season 3 are set four years after the events in Season 1.
New Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Map Available from Today
Naughty Dog have released a new update for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End today focusing on the multiplayer aspect of the game. As part of the update, a new multiplayer map has been added, and is available to all players for free. Called New Devon, the map is set in the lush ruins of an abandoned pirate colony, and it’s one of the largest maps to-date.
