The latest firmware for the PS3 has been announced by Sony, confirming the rumors about the removal of the OtherOS functionality. The new firmware update will bring the system software version to v3.21 and will be available to download this Thursday (April 1st 2010). After updating, the Linux partition on your hard drive will be inaccessible so be sure to backup any data.

Toshiba Announces 750GB PS3 Compatible Hard Drive

Toshiba has announced a new 2.5″ SATA hard drives compatible with the PS3 (among other devices). The MK7559GSXP (750GB/pictured) will be available to purchase soon and will seriously boost your PS3 storage capacity. The 750GB model is the world’s most capacious 2.5-inch/9.5mm high HDD.
God of War III Patched v1.01 Released

God of War III has received a software update, bringing the game to version v1.01. Up on booting up the game, you will be prompted to install a small 5MB update, and mainly addresses a issue with the wireless controller. A few glitches and a trophy hack have been discovered in the title since it was launched on March 16th 2010, so presumably the patch also addresses these.
Confirmed: European PlayStation Store Update Day Changing

According to rumors over the past few days, it seems like the day of the week on which the PlayStation Store is updated in Europe is changing. Since the PlayStation Store was first introduced in 2006 in Firmware version 1.10, store updates have always been on a Thursday (except during holiday periods). From May 5th, the day will be changing to Wednesdays instead.

Sony “Confirms” PlayStation Move Support for Heavy Rain

According to European gaming magazine Chief, which is out next week in the Netherlands and Belgium, a number of titles have been confirmed to support PlayStation Move by Sony. Among the list of titles are some previously announced titles including SOCOM 4 and LittleBigPlanet, but new to the list is Heavy Rain. Although the magazine doesn’t go into details, the game is likely to receive a patch to enable Move support.
FirstPlay Beta Details Emerge

The first beta details for FirstPlay have emerged. FirstPlay is a interactive magazine similar to Qore but targeted to the European market. The magazine is currently in private beta before being released to the general public. The latest installment of the FirstPlay beta features an HD video review of explosive new shooter Battlefield: Bad Company 2, plus exclusive preview footage from Lost Planet 2 and Super Street Fighter IV.
Rumor Alert: PSOne Classics to get Trophies

According to a “trusted source”, PSN@Home are reporting that Sony are looking into the prospect of introducing trophies to PSOne Classics. The source indicated that games will get “5 to 10 trophies,” regardless of the length of the game. If the rumor is true, it will mean many existing PSOne games will need to be patched to include trophies.
New God of War III Glitch Discovered

You may remember the God of War III “Maxed Out” trophy glitch we reported on earlier this week. It turns out that this glitch is a precursor to another glitch in the game – the ability to use maxed out weapons in a new game. Normally, you can’t carry over the weapons from your previous save when starting a new game in God of War III, but we have details on how you can below.
Yakuza 4 Sells 500,000 Copies In a Week

While the West has been enjoying Yakuza 3 for a few weeks now, Japan is enjoying the forth title in the series. Sega has announced that during it’s first week of sales more than 500,000 copies of Yakuza 4 (Ryu ga Gotoku 4) were sold. In just seven days the game outsold Yakuza 3, which according to Weekly Famitsu sold a grand total of 499,436 copies up to the end of December 2009.
