Sony has released a new firmware update for the PS4 overnight, updating the system software to v1.72. The minor update weighs in at 194 MB and is mandatory if you want to continue to access the PlayStation Network. The update does nothing more than improve system stability.

PS4 System Software Ver. 1.71
A new firmware for the PS4 has been released, updating the system software to v1.71. You will be prompted to update your console the next time you boot it up, or if you’re lucky, the update will have already been installed for you. The update is mandatory, which means you console must be updated before you can play online.
PS4 System Software Ver. 1.70
PS4 Firmware v1.70 is the first major firmware update to hit the console since Firmware v1.50 was released when the PS4 first launched. Sony has listened to gamer feedback and incorporated many requested changes into this update, including dimming of the DualShock 4’s lightbar, and improving the Sharing functionality.
PS4 System Software Ver. 1.62
If you have turned on your PS4 in the last day, you’ll have noticed that a new firmware update is now available. Sony has released the minor firmware update to improve “Operation quality during use of some PlayStation 4 software”. Basically, the firmware doesn’t do much except improve stability of some apps.
PS4 System Software Ver. 1.61
A new minor firmware update for the PS4 is now available, updating the console to v1.61. The firmware is mandatory, which means it must be installed before you can access the PlayStation Network. The update, which is 336 MB in size, improves system stability.

The PS3 has received a firmware update, updating the console’s system software to version v4.55. The update is just a minor one, improving system stability with the use of some newly released games. The update is mandatory, so you’ll need to install it should you want to play online and access the PlayStation Store.

Sony has released a new Firmware update for the PS4, adding support for the official PlayStation wireless headsets including the original Wireless headset, the Pulse Wireless Headset and the new Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 (available to purchase soon). The update also adds the ability to mute the microphone on the PS Camera.
PS4 System Software Ver. 1.52
Sony has released PS4 Firmware 1.52, which is an incremental update that “Improves System Stability”. The update should fix issues with games that crash often. The update should have already been downloaded to your console via the Auto Downloads system, but you can manually update the software from the Settings menu.
PS3 System Software Ver. 4.53
Sony has released a new minor firmware update for the PS3, fixing system stability issues with some games. The update is optional to download, but may be required when playing certain new titles. The previous update, Firmware v4.50, was a larger update adding privacy options to trophies and adding Closed Captioning support to Blu-ray movie playback.
PS4 System Software Ver. 1.51
Sony has released the first minor firmware update for the PS4, updating the system software to version v1.51. The minor update is mandatory, and improves the stability of the system software and makes “minor refinements” to the System UI. The update should download to all North American PS4s by default while your console is in stand-by mode.
