The lucky folks over in Japan received a nice surprise on the PlayStation Store today: Final Fantasy VIII, the PSOne classic. Squall, Rinoa, and the rest of Final Fantasy VIII the crew have junctioned themselves into a new domain – you can now play them on the go on your PSP and on the PS3. There is now word on a US or European release yet, but we can expect more details in the next week or two.
This week on VidZone, Dizzee Rascal is the Artist of the Week for UK, Ireland, Australia, Germany; and Colbie Caillat is the Artist of the Week for France, Spain, Italy. Tracks from Dizzee’s new album “Tongue in Cheek” can be viewed in VidZone along with tracks from Colbie’s second album “Breakthrough”. New playlists this week include Award Winning Videos and Student Anthems.
Over the last few weeks the PS3 Slim has provent to be a hit, but hopefully Final Fantasy fans haven’t already purchased one. Sony has a special white and pink edition, called Lightning Edition, coming that will honor the franchise. Plus, it will come rocking a 250GB HDD. So far the special edition is only announced for Japan though. It’s slated to be released on December 17 for ¥41,600 (approx £280 / $460).

This classic has been remade in High Definition and now includes both trophies and rumble support. If you live in Europe, a rumor has been circulating about a new PlayStation 3 Slim model. According to NowGamer, the much-talked about 250GB PS3 Slim model will be coming out as soon as next week. No specific date was given out, but the retail source seems to indicate that this release is no coincidence as news also came out that the new Xbox 360 “Super Elite” will be coming out with bundles.
Sony and SEGA met in early August of this year to discuss SEGA’s PS3 and PSP releases, as well as Sony’s plans for the console in the near future. The confidential notes from the meeting were leaked by SEGA (included below), and suggest Sony is looking to emulate all PlayStation 2 titles and release them on the PlayStation Network. There was also mention of Dreamcast titles.
Comet Crash, the tower defense game for the PlayStation 3 is getting a free update that will add new features to the game. Comet Crash will get a free patch in a few weeks with some new and remastered sound effects, graphics tweaks, language support and a newly optimized SDTV layout.
