Sony today officially announced the BBC Sport app (something we reported yesterday), which will sit alongside BBC News and BBC iPlayer on the Sony Entertainment Network. The new app will launch on Sony BRAVIA and PlayStation 3 in time for Wimbledon 2012.
Publishers have long claimed that second-hand games are hurting the industry, which has lead to the rise in online Passes to access multiplayer content as a way to make some money from second-hand games. The PS4 has been rumored to block used games, but Sony’s Jack Tretton said that he was “opposed to blocking used games.”
The PlayStation 3, along with Sony Bravia TVs and Blu-ray players, will be getting a Olympics Video Application to cover the London 2012 games. The BBC will be launching the BBC Sports app sometime in June – the Sony HX8 TV will be the first device to get the application, just in time for Wimbledon.
Towards the end of May, Naughty Dog will be releasing a new patch for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Patch v1.11 will bring with it the return of the Lab, which was first introduced in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The Lab is a playlist featuring a unique series of multiplayer game types both challenging and fun.
Since its launch on October 25 2011, Battlefield 3 has become the fastest selling title in EA’s 20+ year history selling more than 15 million units since release. Battlefield 3 has also won more than 120 awards including IGN.com’s “Best Multiplayer Game of 2011.”
Sony have teamed up with Activision to put together a limited edition Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in North America. For $299, gamers can get their hands on a 320GB version of the PS3 along with a copy of the game, which SCEA call “one of the best-selling first person action games of all time.”
The World Premiere Gameplay Trailer of Assassin’s Creed III is finally here! We know you’ve been waiting for this since the initial announcement back in March. The gamplay trailer introduces you to Connor’s character, a brutally effective Assassin, taking down his targets with speed and dexterity.
Mass Effect 3 owners can get their hands on some free DLC content via the in-game store. Eduardo Vasconcellos, Community Manager for Bioware, confirmed that the multiplayer Commendation Packs for Operation Goliath and Operation Raptor, which were held previously this year can be downloaded by PS3 gamers.

SCEE have just confirmed that Lightbox Interactive’s Starhawk is a Blu-ray only title. The game is already available in North America and parts of Europe, and will be available in the UK on Friday. In addition, SCEE has confirmed that Starhawk will some with the original PSOne Warhawk title as a PSN download.
