The PS5 Pro has been announced by Lead Architect Mark Cerny in a short presentation earlier today. The console looks similar to the PS5 Slim, but with a small different across the body of the console. The console will be releasing in just a few short months, in November 2024, just in time for Christmas.
The PS5 Pro features three big improvements over the PS5 model:
- Larger GPU
- Advanced Ray Tracing
- AI-Driven Upscaling
The larger GPU features with 67% more compute units and 28% faster RAM, meaning games can render up to 45% faster. Major upgrades to Ray Tracing means calculations at twice or triple the speed of the PS5. The PS5 Pro also includes custom hardware for machine learning, and a AI library called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (or PSSR for short), which will analyse games pixel by pixel to upscale resolution.
Existing titles are being updated to support the PS5 Pro, including The Last of Us 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
The pricing for the PS5 Pro will be as follows:
- $699.99 in North America
- £699.99 in the UK
- €799.99 in Europe
- ¥119,980 in Japan
