A new firmware update for the PS5 has been released, updating the system software to v21.02-04.50.00. Although the version number may indicate that this update is a somewhat major update, the reality is less so. The firmware update appears to be a minor update to the system, improving system performance.
You can check out the release notes for this latest firmware update below. If you’ve left your PS5 settings unchanged and have an active internet connection, you’re likely to find that this latest firmware update has already been installed while in rest mode.
The update could be in relation to hackers claiming to have obtained the PS5 root keys, which could lead to jailbreaking the console and eventually homebrew content and game piracy. If Sony does update the release notes, we’ll let you know.
