Ghost of Tsushima’s online multiplayer functionality will be getting a standalone release for the PS5 and PS4 in September, meaning players can play the game online, without having the single-player portion installed on their system (saving space). In addition, a new Rivals mode is being introduced to the game at the same time.
The Rivals mode launches on 3rd September 2021, alongside the standalone release, and allows two teams of two to compete against each other to see who can defeat waves of enemies better. The new mode also includes new Trophies and cosmetic items.
Second, at the same time Rivals launches, Sucker Punch are also releasing the Gear Mastery system. This is a new expansion of the progression systems and rewards for Legends. Players who’ve earned 110-level gear will now be able to bind it to a class and activate “Mastery Challenges.” This will allow a piece of gear’s Ki level to be upgraded to 120 and eventually unlock a second perk slot! As you activate Mastery Challenges, you can also unlock a new Ability and new Techniques for each class.
Starting on August 20 (release date of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut), Sucker Punch will also be releasing an update that will add new features to Legends, including some changes based on feedback from the community. This will rebalance the Survival mode for shorter sessions, add a new weekly survival Nightmare challenge, and add more cosmetics.
The standalone release of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will be available for $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99 on both PS4 or PS5 consoles. You will be able to upgrade to the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for an additional $40 / €50 /£44 on PS4 or $50 / €60 / £54 on PS5.
