Gran Turismo 7 on the PS5 has been delayed into 2022, Sony has confirmed in an interview with GQ Magazine. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the game’s development over the past several months, which means the release date has shifted from 2021 to 2022.
As part of the interview with PlayStation’s Jim Ryan, a Sony PR representative stated:
“GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.”
Late last year (and just before the release of the PS5 console), there were rumours that the game would be launching in the first half of 2021 after an advert seemly leaked a “early 2021” release date.
GT7 never did get an official release date for 2021, but was expected to release at some point this year. Today’s news will be a blow to GT fans looking forward to the next-gen experience, and aside from a 2022 release window, no exact release date has been announced as of yet. Hopefully a further announcement will be made soon.
