The very first public firmware update for the PS5 was released today, 12th November 2020, the day the console launched in a small number of countries including the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.
The update is around 870 MB in size when downloaded on the PS5, and around 830 MB if downloaded from the PlayStation website. Prior to this update, the PS5 has been at least three previous firmware updates, including 20.02-01.02, 20.02-02.00 and 20.02-02.10.
According to unofficial sources, this update fixes the following:
- This update fixes accessing PS4 Games saved on external storage once you plug it into the PS5’s USB port. PS4 Games are now recognized and run without having to copy them to PS5 SSD.
- This system software update improves system performance
- Minor bug fixes
