The new PlayStation App for Android and iOS is starting to roll-out to users, and while it’s a step in the right direction, it also removed features that you have grown accustomed to over the years. This includes the removal of “What’s New” feed that informs you of recent activity from friends.
The new version of the app has a completely new User Interface (UI) that matches the PS5’s new UI. In addition, the PlayStation Store is now completely integrated into the app as well as Messages (which was a seperate app).
But the new app also removes some features, like “What’s New”. The What’s New feed was a good way to what friends are playing, what recent trophies they’ve unlocked as see shared content (uploaded screenshots and live streams).
On the PS4, you have the ability to follow other players (not just friends), who’s activity appears in the What’s New feed. While it’s expected that this will continue to work on the PS4, you won’t be able to get this feed in the app.
The new PS App has done away with the What’s New and Friend Activity feeds. While the new version will show you recent games, it will no longer display recent trophies or other shared content:
The new PS App also removes the “Compare Trophies” feature, which lets you compare your unlocked trophies with a friend, right down to game and DLC level.
The ability to compare trophies with friends has also been removed from the PlayStation website.
As we dig into the app further, we will update this article with other findings and changes.
