A number of first-party games have been recently patched, including The Last of Us Remastered, God of War (2018) and God of War 3 Remastered. The release notes for the updates don’t reveal much, but some of the updates are related to Boost Mode on the PS5.
In the case with The Last of Us Remastered, the loading times on the PS4 have been dramatically improved, taking the loading times from 90 seconds to just 14 seconds.
While it’s unclear how the game has been able to drastically reduce the load times, or why it’s taken years to do so, its speculated that developers have been applying newer compression techniques and other learnings over the years to optimise these games.
God of War (2018) has been patched to include 60fps on the PS5 using the new “Favor Performance” video option. God of War and God of War 3 Remastered has also been updated to allow players to transfer their PS4 saves to the PS5, so you can continue where you left off.
Other games may receive similar patches in the run up to the PS5 launch next month. If these games can be optimised on the PS4 hardware, just imaging how fast they will be on the PS5’s ultra-fast SSD.
