You may encounter error CE-33198-4 when your system is low on free space and you are trying to start a game that requires some data to be installed. For example, done disc-based games will install data to the PS4’s drive to speed up loading.
If you get this error, you will need to clear out some data before the game can be installed and started. The error message may tell you how much space is required.
You can see how much free space you have from [Settings] > [Storage] > [System Storage], which will show you the used space by type of content and the free space available.
To clean out some space, you can try the following:
- Delete old screenshots and gameplay footage you no longer require. Gameplay footage is in particular large and could free up a decent amount of space. Automated trophy screenshots can also be deleted to free up space, but these are not usually very large. You can delete videos and screenshots using the [Capture Gallery] application.
- Delete old games you no longer play, especially physical games that may have installed data and updates to the PS4’s hard drive. Large games like GTA V, Call of Duty and Destiny can free up significant amount of data, but only delete the games if you no longer play them. You can delete games by pressing the Options button and deleting [Delete].
- Delete saved data for old game you no longer own or play. You can use the [Save Data Utility] to delete saved data for games you no longer own or play, this is in particular useful if you have PlayStation Plus and can upload the saved data to the cloud, leaving you free to delete the data from the system. If you want to use the saved data again, you can download it from the cloud.
