Ghost of Tsushima is still several weeks away from launching exclusively on the PS4, and as we approach the release date, more details about the game have been revealed by Sucker Punch. A Q&A posted on the PlayStation Blog reveals more about the game, including the difficulty modes, side quests, game length and more.
You can read the full Q&A here, but if you’re pressed for time, we’ve summarized the main information below:
Weapons
- Jin only have one main weapon in the game – his katana, which is a family heirloom. He won’t be able to make use of other weapons like axes or spears, but does have access to both halfbow and longbow.
- Jin’s katana will follow him from start to finish of the game, and can be customised and upgraded.
- Jin will also have access to kunai (throwing arrow type tool) and smoke bombs.
Other Mechanics
- Jin can play his flute any time while exploring the open world.
- The game has a full day/night cycle as well as dynamic weather. Some of the weather conditions are specific to regions in the game, while others are tired to story moments.
- Players can choose to fight as a Samurai or Ghost, but neither will have any consequence on the story. Players can switch between the two depending on the situation, and some abilities will work for either fighting style.
- Jin cannot swim.
- There are no other playable characters.
Difficulty
- There will be three difficulty settings – easy, normal, and hard.
- Enemies will be more aggressive on the harder difficulties and players will require skill to pull off certain moves, but the health of the enemies won’t increase.
- The game won’t necessarily be easy says Sucker Punch. Jin’s foes can definitely take him out if the player isn’t careful.
Exploring
- Players can choose to explore towns and complete side quests, while forging alliances with other non-playable characters.
- The side quests will provide a greater perspective on the invasion, and they also offer some of the best rewards in the game.
Game Length
- Sucker Punch says Ghost of Tsushima is larger and longer than their previous games, but can’t say how long it would take to complete.
- Most of the play testers can spend a full week on the game and not finish the storyline.
