Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 will be releasing on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, in response to a tweet from the official Xbox account. More details will be announced in due course from Bungie.
The further details should hopefully include whether Destiny 2 will be a next-gen launch title, and how the game will work with current gen versions, especially when it comes to things like cross-play and transferring purchased content.
Publishers like CD Projekt RED and Ubisoft have already confirmed that players who purchase Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla on Xbox One will get the game at no extra cost on the Xbox Series X.
It remains to be see whether Sony also implements a similar “cross-buy” system for the PS5. Sony has previously used cross-buy between the PS3, PS Vita and PS4, but only a limited number of games have used the feature.
It would be interesting if Destiny 2 is cross-buy, as the game was given away via PlayStation Plus back in September 2018, meaning potentially millions of players will be able to access the game on next-gen for free.
