Sony has announced that it will shut down the PlayStation Vue service on January 30, 2020, which was first launched in the US over four years ago. PlayStation fans will still be able to access movie and TV content through the PlayStation Store on PS4 and via the various entertainment apps on the PS4.
The PlayStation Vue service was never launched outside the US. Sony says that the “highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected.” As a result, PlayStation has decided to remain focused on their core gaming business.
Vue wasn’t able to compete with the various other services in the US market, including Dish, DirectTV, YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime. Over the years, the service managed to gain 500,000 subscribers, some of which have been subscribers since the service first launched.
