Sony’s latest earnings reports has revealed that the PS4 has sold 3.2 million units in the quarter ending 30th June 2019. This means that the console has now sold exactly 100 million units worldwide. In the last report, the PS4 sales stood at 96.8 million units.
In terms of sales, this makes the PS4 the fastest selling home console to reach 100 million units, beating both the PS2 and Nintendo’s Wii console. It took the PS4 five years and 7 months to reach this milestone, while the PS2 took five years and 9 months.
Its remains to be seen whether the PS4 is able to meat the lifetime sales of the PS2, which stands at 155 million units. Sony’s forecast for the 2019 financial year, which ends in March 2020, expects sales of 16 million units. This would be down on the previous financial year’s 17.8 million and 2017’s 19 million.
The earning report also revealed the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers, which is now at 36.2 million members. Finally, the number of digital game purchases is now at 53%, which means more players are purchasing digital games instead of physical copies.
