Following yesterday’s announcement of the PS4 Pro, the official specification and photos of the upcoming console has been revealed. It’s now clear that the new PS4 won’t include a UHD Blu-ray drive, despite the console’s main selling point being its 4K compatibility. Even with that omission, the PS4 Pro still sports some serious hardware upgrades.
The PS4 Pro’s GPU has been upgraded massively from the 1.84 TFLOPS GPU in the original PS4 to the more powerful 4.20 TFLOPS GPU in the Pro. The hard drive will also come in 1 TB as standard. Sony has also added one extra USB port, which can be found at the rear of the console – this will be especially useful for the PlayStation VR.
The weight of the console has increases however, from 2.8kg (original 1st generation PS4) to 3.3kg for the Pro. But the dimensions of the console are slightly smaller than the original PS4.
The official FAQ and spec sheet confirm that the PS4 Pro will not include a UHD Blu-ray drive:

No, PS4 Pro’s internal Blu-ray drive does not support the new Ultra 4K Blu-ray Disc format. It supports the same Blu-ray Disc specs as the standard PS4. The Blu-ray Disc Player application, however, will support high-quality upscaling of DVD and Blu-ray Disc content.
