Sony has announced that pre-orders for the stand-alone version of PlayStation VR are to begin in North America next week, on 29th March 2016. The PlayStation VR bundle, containing everything you need to start playing including the PlayStation Camera and VR Worlds game, is already available for pre-order for $499.
Originally, SCEA were not going to allow pre-orders of the core system until gamers expressed their feedback. A statement from Sony via the PlayStation.Blog reads:
Thanks to everyone for sharing their feedback on PlayStation VR pre-orders! It’s clear that there’s a lot of interest from many of you to secure the PlayStation VR core system, and I’m happy to share that we’ve decided to make it available for pre-order on Tuesday, March 29, at 7:00 a.m. PT at participating retailers.
So to wrap it all up, here are your pre-order options:
- PlayStation VR Launch Bundle ($499.99 MSRP) – pre-order on March 22 at 7:00 a.m. PT
- PlayStation VR core ($399.99 MSRP) – pre-order on March 29 at 7:00 a.m. PT
It’s good to know that Sony is listening to feedback and taking it on board.
In Europe, the initial stock allocation of the core VR headset sold out in minutes. In fact, the PlayStation VR headset was the number one best seller in Amazon’s Video Games category.
