Sony has revealed that a massive 3.5 million PlayStation consoles (PS4, PS3 and PS2) have been sold, but didn’t go into specifics to reveal how many of each were actually sold. When comparing it to Xbox sales over the same period, which sold 1.1 million units, PlayStation outsold its rival by 3:1. At the same time, sales of PS Vita and PSP jumped to 750,000 from 600,000 this time last year.
The sales figure represents consoles sold in the three months of April, May and June. Microsoft was recently able to double Xbox One sales by unbundling the Kinect camera from the console, but it still couldn’t match PS4 sales. Nintendo made losses in the same period even though Mario Kart 8 sold near to 3 million copies and that Wii U sales managed to pick up a bit.
It will be interesting to see how many PS4s and Xbox Ones have been sold since both consoles launched…
