In an interview with Geoff Keighley, Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for SCE revealed that the next PS4 firmware update will allow gamers to dim the lightbar on the DualShock 4. The next firmware is already in development and will be releasing in coming weeks.
Keighley originally misunderstood Yoshida in thinking the lightbar could be turned off completely, but Yoshida quick to correct him:
@geoffkeighley no, I said dim the LED, not turn off

While the lightbar or is glare has never really bothered me, even when playing in the dark, it’s a win for those gamers that found it troublesome. It good to see Sony taking on board gamer feedback to improve the PS4.
