Sony’s VR headset, currently dubbed Project Morpheus, is currently in the prototyping stages but the technical details of the device are impressive. The technical specification of the developer version of the headset has been revealed following the announcement at GDC.
Technical Details:
- 5″ 1080p LCD display (960×1080 per eye) with 90˚ field of view (subject to change in final version)
- Head tracking runs at 1000Hz within a 3 meter volume and through 360˚, facilitated by the PlayStation Camera and LED lights, and built-in accelerometer and gyroscope.
- The PS Camera can track both your head and DualShock 4 or PS Move controllers at the same time.
- The headset currently uses a HDMI and USB cables to connect to the PS4, but a wireless solution is being looked into.
- The display can be streamed to the headset and TV simultaneously to allow others to spectate or join in.
- The headset will accommodate users who wear glasses, and had a unique design that sits higher on your head as to not put pressure on the nose and allow air to circulate.
- The prototype version allows use of your own headphones, which can be plugged into the headset.
