Bungie has revealed that Destiny will be released worldwide in September 2014, with a Beta scheduled for Summer 2014. The game was originally expected to release in Spring 2014 but has since slipped to September. As the game’s release date has been pushed back, so had the beta date, which will now be available in Summer 2014, and available first on PlayStation platforms before releasing elsewhere.
The game itself is now scheduled for release on September 9th 2014 (9/9/14) in both North America and Europe.
We can only assume that they felt they needed more time to develop the game and deliver on the potential of the universe they are creating. Also, it just so happens that 9/9/14 is a pleasingly repetitious date, and works in that format on both sides of the ocean, so I’m personally hoping that it’s a simultaneous worldwide launch. It just wouldn’t be the same to get it on 12/9/14…
Along with the game itself being delayed, this also means that the beta has been pushed back to next summer, though it is still coming to PlayStation 3 and 4 before other platforms.
