Website AnandTech has run two speed tests on the internet browsers on the Xbox One and PS4, revealing that the PS4’s browser is 2-5x faster than the Xbox One, at least in terms of JavaScript performance. Two tests were run on each browser, the first using the Sunspider benchmark suite which measures JavaScript performance, and the second using Kracken, a JavaScript performance benchmark created by Mozilla.
The Sunspider test on the PS4 returned a result of 1,027.40 whilst the Xbox One managed 2,360.90. As this was a speed test, the lower score on the PS4 shows that the browser was over twice as fast as the Xbox One’s browser. In the second test suing Kracken, the PS4 scored 22,768.70 whilst the Xbox One was around five times slower with a rating of 111,892.50.
The downside of the faster performance was that the PS4 consumed more power, due to more CPU cores being utilised.
