Sony have uploaded the PS4 Firmware v1.50 to the servers ahead of the console’s launch in North America and Europe next month. Although Sony has confirmed that the update can be downloaded in the background while playing single-player games, but if you want to update your console straight away, you can download the firmware update beforehand.
The v1.5 firmware update can be downloaded from here, but is for North American PS4 consoles only. The firmware update looks like it was uploaded to the servers yesterday, as the URL includes the date stamp ‘2013_1028’, referring to 28th October 2013.
The update itself is 308 MB in size and will take around 10-12 minutes to download on a 4 mbps connection. Sony hasn’t detailed how to update the console via USB drive, but it’s likely to be the same process as the PS3.
Warning: We recommend you do not download the file above, and instead update your console using the Settings menu when you receive it. Installing the wrong firmware on your console (i.e. from a different region) could damage your console.
