Something that’s been hot in the news over the past few weeks is the next-gen Xbox rumoured to require an always-on Internet connection. Sony has confirmed that the PS4 won’t require an always-on connection. In fact, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida goes further to say that they didn’t even consider it an option. The news comes from this month’s Game Informer magazine.
“Did we consider it?” says Yoshida. “No, we didn’t consider it.”
“The main reason being that many countries don’t have robust Internet connections. It makes sense for people to have Internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw do not really have robust Internet,” he added.
We won’t know until later on this month if the next-gen Xbox will actually require an always-on connection, but for PlayStation fans, this is certainly good news.
