This week, the PS3 will be getting a firmware update, updating the system software to version v4.30. The update brings with it the ability to view PS Vita trophies on the console, and relocates the [Trophy Collection] Icon on the XMB to reside under [PlayStation Network]. The new firmware update also removed the Life with PlayStation application.
By the beginning of November 2012, Sony will retire the services available through the Life with PlayStationapplication. In conjunction with its retirement, Sony will stop offering the Life with PlayStation application to new users with the 4.30 update. This also means that Folding@home, a distributed computing project aimed at understanding protein folding, misfolding and studying the causes of a variety of diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s as well as various cancers, will be removed.
Since Folding@Home was first launched in 2007, over 15 million users have participated, donating more than 100 million computation hours.
