Sony today officially announced the BBC Sport app (something we reported yesterday), which will sit alongside BBC News and BBC iPlayer on the Sony Entertainment Network. The new app will launch on Sony BRAVIA and PlayStation 3 in time for Wimbledon 2012.
During the London 2012 Olympics Games, the BBC Sport app will give audiences access to 2,500 hours of content and up to 24 simultaneous live events, all in HD.
During Euro 2012 and Wimbledon, the new BBC Sport app will offer a range of alternative coverage options in line with those offered on the BBC Sport website, including additional matches/games, choice of audio commentary options, stats and rolling highlights.
The BBC will also be providing live coverage of 10 races in the 2012 Formula 1 season across all its platforms.
“Launching this app to millions of PS3 owners in the UK will be a very welcome addition to PlayStation’s universal entertainment credentials” added Alan Duncan, UK Marketing Director for Sony Computer Entertainment UK.
