If you were paying close attention to Jack Tretton (head of SCEA) when he took the stage at E3 this year, you may remember him talking about the inclusion of DICE’s classic shooter, Battlefield 1943 on every Blu-Ray copy of Battlefield 3. However, this doesn’t seem to be the actual case. Players that picked up Battlefield 3 over the past week have noticed that Battlefield 1943 doesn’t seem to be on their disc.
If you’re one of the many PS3 owners trying to sort out where your Battlefield 1943 went, you can stop looking – it’s not on the disc. DICE worked out a different deal with Sony, trading the inclusion of the game for early DLC access for PS3 owners. Here’s an official tweet from DICE that sums it up:
“In lieu of 1943 being available on disk for PS3 customers, EA has made all BF3 expansions available early to PS3 customers.”
Personally, this seems like false advertising and somewhat of a loss. I would have preferred to have an entire game for free than be able to play the DLC content only one week before Xbox 360 gamers. Sony should have made this change clear from the start.
