Now that the digital re-release of Final Fantasy IX is complete, Square Enix has officially announced the release date for Japan. According to a tweet from Square Enix Producer Shinji Hashimoto, the PSone classic will be out to download from the Japanese PlayStation Store on May 20th 2010.
The game will then hit the US and European PlayStation Stores, but an exact date for Western release has not been announced yet. No price has been revealed for the title either, but it’s is likely to cost ¥1,500 (or roughly $16, and the same price as the other Final Fantasy titles on the store.)
UPDATE: The PlayStation.Blog has announced that Final Fantasy IX will be available to purchase soon in North America.
