A remake of the PSOne classic Final Fantasy VII has been requested ever since a tech demo of the opening sequence of the game was first revealed on the PlayStation 3. Unfortunately, Square Enix has repeatedly said that no remake is currently planned. In a interview with Siliconera during the Final Fantasy XIII launch party, Yoichi Wada, President and CEO of Square Enix, revealed that Square Enix are exploring the possibility of a remake.
“Right now we don’t have a clear direction, but many fans have requested we remake Final Fantasy VII,” said Wada. “We’re going to explore the possibility – whether or not we’re going to do it, if we’re going to do it, and the platform.”
It is possible that the remake may not even be on the PlayStation 3, depending on the kind of budget Square Enix has on the project. Providing that Square Enix decide to remake the title, a lot of PlayStation fans will be happy indeed (including me).
