Today marks the PlayStation 3’s third birthday in Europe. The 60GB PS3 console was released exactly three years ago after suffering production delays. A lot has changed over the past three years, including over 35 firmware updates and lots of exclusive games including Heavy Rain, the multi-award winning Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 and inFamous.
The PS3 catalog has increased vastly over the past year with many PSOne classics, PSN titles and the introduction of PSP minis in addition to the many Blu-ray games available. This year alone has seen many fantastic games, so much so that we find ourselves overwhelmed with the number of titles we have yet to finish.
Three years ago, the PS3 was priced at £425 (but we had to buy one!) and now is available for only £249, a reduction of over £175. PS3 sales have continued to increase over the years, surpassing sales of the Xbox 360 (since launch). The rest of the year is also action-packed with titles such as Gran Turismo 5, ModNation Racers and The Last Guardian set for 2010 release, as well as the PlayStation Move motion controller.
Cool. I’m coming up to having it for just a year in 3 weeks time lol. Hopefully Sony will stick to their 10 year cycle. Last Guardian is my next most anticipated title.
Good stuff. I’m in the US so we had it since November. Though I’ve only had mine for a few months now.
